Overview

The Apple Blossom Club collected their first dues on October 18, 1981. All four paid members owned Apple computers (the Macintosh wasn't released until 1984!) One of those paying their dues that day is still a member!

Our first few meetings were held in the home of one of the original members. When membership outgrew a member’s home, meetings were moved to the Winston–Dillard Rural Fire District’s squad room. Later meetings were moved to the computer lab at Douglas High School. In the mid–1980’s meetings were moved to the Mac Lab at Umpqua Community College. In December 1995, UCC closed the Mac Lab and meetings were moved to other locations. We are now meeting in various locations. In 2002 we found a semi–permanent home at the Jo Lane Middle School in Roseburg. For several years we had an annual picnic at one of our member’s home.

We have met at various area business that use Macs, i.e., ArtBeats in Myrtle Creek, HillCrest Vineyard, Creative Images (all have been members), plus the News Review and Leif Studios. Other locations where we have met are: Fir Grove Elementary School, Melrose Elementary School, Douglas High School, Masonic Laurel Lodge, Freight Pros and individual member homes.

Our members range from students, small business people, retirees, professionals, etc. One of our memberes is in his 90s. We don't discriminate because of age or sex. We have young and what some might call mature members. One advantage of being a member is meeting others with similar interests and/or computer needs. Members ask each other about hardware or software issues before making purchases, how to use particular software to better accomplish individual tasks, etc.

Dues are only $20 for 12 months. Since 1991 we have published a monthly newsletter, The RoseByter. It features meeting notices, tips on using your computer and brief software/hardware reviews written by our members.

Here on our Web site you have access to our current and many of our past newsletters, coming events, pictures from the past, etc.

In 2008 we decided to change our meeting dates to the third Thursday of each month. Currently our meetings have been at 7:00 PM. See Coming events for details.
